Neoromanticism

The thing which no longer resembles a man

lies in a coffin in the Certosa crypt,

Not a resting soul: a decaying corpse.

No Romantic imagery can make sense of this.

The thing which no longer needs glasses to see

Nor sees, decomposes in walls of cold stone

And us, men of science, from cosmologies free

Have but these raw facts: sheer fragments of bone.
